Term Definition
TayaA residence, usually in or near a temple or dojo (and often supervised by a priest), the main purpose of which is to enable those who stay there to attain faith and live their lives with pure faith.  The taya system originated in Rennyo Shonin’s day but has now almost died out in Japan, with the notable exception of Shogyoji which revived the tradition in the early twentieth century.
